The health of our infrastructure directly impacts the health of our economy. From sea and air ports to rail and highways, Greater Philadelphia depends on sound, efficient means to commute to work and school, move goods, and grow. The Economy League examines infrastructure policy and systems through the lens of regional growth and sustainability.
This study considered port activity on both sides of the Delaware River, from Trenton, NJ and Bucks County, PA to the ocean. Its analysis included a review of dynamic factors impacting maritime commerce in Greater Philadelphia and a discussion of trends and policies that may alter anticipated future activity. It does not seek to evaluate the costs and benefits of any particular port development proposal; rather, this report is intended to inform decisions regarding investment and land use along the Delaware Riverfront and offer context and insights to guide the critical future choices to be made by government and business stakeholders. Maritime Commerce was commissioned by the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation.
